DID YOU KNOW?
School administrators and police officers are not required by law to tell a minor they can have a parent present during questioning? In a zero-tolerance climate, this is a disaster for you and your child. It is up to your child to insist that you be present or on the phone before questioning. Before we begin, it is IMPERATIVE that you and your children sit down and watch this video -- not only is it useful in dealing with the police, but also school officials, who are not in any way obligated to uphold your rights or your child's rights. They are capable of just as much intimidation and trickery, as any other public authority...and they can LIE to and berate you legally--and get away with it. Even if you or your child do not have any intention of breaking the law, do not use illegal drugs or go to wild parties, and "have never been in trouble" ever, all it takes is to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, around the wrong people, and say the wrong things to find yourself arrested. Believe it or not, there are "bullies" in the system who do not hesitate to abuse their power.
